Welcome to Uncrooked.

If you think your free speech on the internet is protected, think again!

Lawsuits have been filed in British Columbia (BC) against numerous key internet sites. Libel law in BC fails to protect what right-thinking people in many other jurisdictions consider free speech. It's time to straighten those laws out!

These suits have been launched by Wayne Crookes, a controversial Green Party of Canada financier and former campaign manager who appears to be seeking to erase from the Internet any exploration into his public role in that political party.

Defendents include Wikipedia.com, Google.com, Yahoo.com, Pbwiki.com, MySpace.com and Openpolitics.ca.

This wiki is a read-only source of legal documents and evidence related to these lawsuits.

In most jurisdictions in the Western world, he would not be able to pull this off, but the Canadian Province of British Columbia has what may very well be the most antiquated libel laws of any Western democracy.

In BC, libel law says you are quilty until proven innocent. This means that in BC even the best researched piece of online journalism written and posted elsewhere in the world can be claimed to be libellous, a legal action launched, and the false claim used as a pretense to get a court order to take the published work down and even reveal the identities of otherwise anonymous sources and authors.

These lawsuits are not about private issues. They are about our freedoms, and the pursuit of just human rights the world over. Should the backwards laws in BC be allowed to suppress online information legal in many places throughout the world? Should anonymous persons writing legally elsewhere in the world be forced to have their identities revealed because of BC law? What of political dissidents and whistleblowers?

Watch the lawsuit documents or CrookesLawsuits.pbwiki.com for the documents related to these cases.
